Gloomy Economic Picture
South Asian region's economic performance is predicted to be lowest in the last 40 years according to the World Bank's recent report. Then, six months earlier, 6.3 % was projected against now of 1.8-2.8 %. Whereas Pakistan's economic growth will be negative by 2.2%. Which depicts already going recession in the country. However, the real focus is on the poor who are both economically and medically most vulnerable. They are more prone to losing jobs and get hurt by possible price hikes, as suggested in the report. Given the situation, federal and provincial governments should start planning for growth acceleration. Some influentials have already started trying to get relaxations in lockdown for their sector. But the government should ensure whatever step it takes to encourage growth, the growth should be equitable and sustainable.
